Positive: It is on the pricey side, but we truly enjoyed the experience. The meals were exceptional. The staff was really helpful and I even had a chance to practice my Japanese during our stay. I asked the day before the morning ceremony about the availability of an interpreter, and I was delighted that one agreed to join us and share deeper insights into the traditions and meaning of Zen Buddhism. Koya is a beautiful place and definitely worth spending a night there at least once in your lifetime 🙂

Negative: I was expecting more of a traditional temple experience, but it felt more like a hotel. I didn’t mind that, though. I was a bit surprised to find a TV in the room and even the option to buy beer.
